Our women’s team begins its top-flight campaign against Szeged

Our newly promoted women’s team begins the 2024/2025 season at home, at the Honvéd-MFA Youth Centre, hosting Kész-St. Mihály-Szeged, who finished sixth last season, in round 1 of the Simple Women’s League.

“We have really been looking forward to Honvéd playing in the first division – began head coach Martin Masaryk. – I expect difficult matches; we have to be humble and do everything for success. We are newcomers, we will not be favourites in any match, and our primary goal is to secure survival. I feel our preparation went well. Of course, you can never say it was perfect, but we worked a lot, implemented most of what we had planned, and we are looking forward to the start with confidence.“

Krisztián Korozmán, head of the women’s section
“The staff and the girls worked honestly and with great dedication during the seven-week preparation period. We trained a lot and played against strong foreign teams. Even with our winter signings we were already preparing for NB I and strengthened the squad consciously, but as the saying goes, the first division is a different world. Our squad is relatively small, but the team is made up of quality players and we also have further targets. We have completed most of the planned reinforcements, while the remaining ones are planned for the winter. Even so, the current squad is capable of springing a positive surprise. Our goal is secure survival, while we would rather look forward than backward. The coaching staff did excellent work during the summer, we have a strong team and, because we are talking about Honvéd, we want to win every match.“

Our head coach stressed that the team changed significantly during the summer. Reinforcements were essential because of the step up in division, and it is pleasing that we managed to strengthen the squad with quality players. Coach Martin Masaryk added that he hopes the team can avoid injuries, otherwise the relatively limited depth could create difficulties.

Our women’s team plays its home matches at the Honvéd academy. Admission to the games is free, but a HUF 0 registration ticket is required, which can be collected at the entrance. Gates open: 1 hour before the matches.

“Our mentality could be our biggest weapon – continued Martin Masaryk. – As I said, we will not be the favourites, which is why it is important to work with great commitment and intensity in every training session and every match. If we do not remain united, we will have difficult moments.“

Vivien Csuhai
“Our preparation went well, I feel in good form, and I encountered many new things in training. The sessions were varied, so the preparation never felt monotonous. We can hardly wait for the start. A good beginning would be important, that is what we are concentrating on now, and if we play with maximum focus then we can perform well in the first division too. Everyone has settled in, one of our biggest strengths is the good team spirit. It also means a lot that we go through everything in great detail with the staff and do plenty of individual video work; that is something I had really missed earlier in my career.“

As mentioned, our team begins the league against Szeged on Saturday, then we travel to bronze medallists MTK. In round 5, defending champions Ferencváros come to Kispest, and we close the half-season in Szeged four months and one day after the opening round.

“We begin the league against Szeged, but above all we are focusing on ourselves. The most important thing is to improve our own game day by day – stressed our head coach. – Of course, we pay attention to our rivals and prepare for them, but for me the key is that we do our own work as well as possible and believe in what we are doing. The girls are ready to fight for Honvéd, and they will show that on the pitch on Saturday too!“

Maja Hrelja
“The summer was full of hard training and I think we are ready for the start. I expect difficult matches, it will not be easy for us, but if we work hard then we can compete with anyone. It is important to highlight that we have a very good group, settling in was easy, the team-mates are kind and everyone welcomed me well. Honvéd’s greatest strength is our unity, the fact that we can always rely on one another.“
