Information, facts and figures – everything worth knowing about our match against ETO FC.

There is no let-up: after our victory over ZTE FC, another OTP Bank Liga fixture follows, and in the first match of the calendar autumn we travel to Győr to face defending champions ETO FC. In terms of matches played, we are one or two games behind the other teams, but only three points separate the sides in the table (and they are level in terms of points dropped). The balance has not tipped either way in a rivalry dating back to 1937, even though this will be the 135th top-flight league meeting. Alongside 46 Kispest wins and 46 Győr victories, the teams have drawn 42 times.

– Only Vasas, MTK, Paks and Újpest have scored more goals than Győr, although the first three have each played more matches than the green-and-whites. At the same time, Győr have conceded the second-fewest goals (7) in the 2026-27 season.
– Győr's 11 goals are shared among six players, five of whom (Gavric, Huszár, Djukanovic, Urblík, Njie) have scored twice.
– We have fond memories of our most recent meetings with the green-and-whites. We last met in competitive action in the 2023-24 season, winning both the 7th and 24th rounds of the Merkantil Bank Liga. Our most recent visit to Győr was decided by Noel Keresztes's goal in the 60th minute, while in Round 7 substitute István Pekár's 92nd-minute header gave us a 2–1 win.

HISTORY

Our opponents were founded in 1904 as Győri ETO and competed under that name until 1945. Over the next six years the club changed its name several times: Győri Vasas ETO, Győri Vasas SK, Magyar Vagon és Gépgyár ETO; from 1958 it was Győri Vasas ETO, and from 1968 Rába Vasas ETO. From 1994 it competed as ETO Futballklub Győr and later as Győri Egyetértés Torna Osztály Futball Club. The current name, ETO FC Győr, has been in use since 2015. We have played 163 competitive matches against Győr to date, the majority – 134 – in NB I:
NB I: 134
NB II: 6 (four involving Honvéd II)
NB III: 2 (Honvéd II)
Hungarian Cup: 15
League Cup: 4
Tournament of Champions: 3
The overall record from Honvéd's perspective: 61 wins, 45 draws, 58 defeats. 256 goals scored, 247 conceded.

NB I

The first Győr–Kispest match in NB I took place on October 17, 1937. It ended in a 5–2 victory, with our goals scored by Déri (2), Kincses, Borsos and Víg. Győr recorded their first win in the seventh meeting, winning 4–0 in November 1948. Kispest took revenge a year later: in spring 1949 an unusual scoreline more reminiscent of water polo saw Kispest, led by Ferenc Puskás, beat the side from the banks of the Rába 11–3. Öcsi bácsi contributed seven goals, while Gyulai scored three.
In spring 1951 our team recorded another big victory, this time beating their rivals 7–0. Puskás was again active, scoring three, with László Budai II (2), Sándor Kocsis and István Horváth sharing the other goals. Puskás is the top scorer in this fixture with 24 goals, followed by Mihály Kozma with 17. Győr's most prolific player is Péter Bajzát with 7 goals.
In the early 1980s Győr dominated the league, winning the title twice during that period. Then, in spring 1984, Honvéd emerged as challengers to the throne, with Komora's team facing an important match away to champions Rába ETO. A sell-out crowd of 28,000 awaited the teams for the Győr showdown. The game was extremely exciting and entertaining, and most importantly it ended in a Kispest victory. Bp. Honvéd won 3–1 through goals from Esterházy, Gyimesi and Gere. By the end of the league season the dethroning was complete, and the (old-)new champions were Bp. Honvéd.
The most recent NB I meeting between the sides to date was played on December 6, 2014. The visitors won 2–0 at Bozsik Stadion thanks to a brace from Koltai.

Hungarian Cup

The two teams first met in the Hungarian Cup in November 1964, in the final. There was only one goal in the showpiece, scored by Imre Komora, allowing Kispest to celebrate the club's second cup triumph after 1926. Three years later the green-and-whites won 6–0 in the quarter-final. In 1988 the sides met in the semi-final, with Honvéd reaching the final after winning both legs (2–1, 1–0). Fortuna brought the two teams together again a year later. Following a 3–1 home win, Honvéd lost 2–1 in Győr but still advanced. In 2009, 45 years after their first final, Győr and Honvéd contested the final for a second time, with the trophy decided over two matches. We won the first game 1–0 through Abraham's goal, while the return leg in Kispest ended goalless, so in 2009 it was Kispest who lifted the prestigious trophy.

Tournament of Champions

In the summer of 1974, players from Győr and Kispest faced each other in a new competition, the Tournament of Champions. We won 3–2 at Népstadion through goals from Sándor Bartos, Sándor Pintér and Lajos Kocsis. The teams met twice more in the Tournament of Champions, in Várpalota in 1976 and Tata in 1977. The former ended in a 2–1 Győr win, the latter in a 1–0 Kispest victory.

League Cup

We played four matches in the League Cup. In 2012 Győr won 3–0 at Bozsik Stadion and the return leg ended 2–2. In 2014 the match in Győr finished 3–3, while Honvéd won 1–0 in Kispest.

Players to have represented both clubs:

Our squad includes several players who previously represented Győr. Deian Boldor left the title-winning side this summer to join Honvéd, while Dominik Csontos played 51 competitive matches for Győr between 2023 and 2025 and played a significant role in their promotion, contributing four goals and six assists.

Squads:

ETO FC have the second most valuable squad in NB I behind Fradi, although the champions' playing squad – along with their technical staff – underwent major changes during the summer. Győr sold players for close to 10 million euros during the summer, while also spending around one million euros. Alongside experienced Leon Balogun, arrivals included Nicolae Rotaru, Peter Agba, Jewison Bennette and, most recently, Élan Ricardo. At the same time, several players who played pivotal roles in last season's success – Nadhir Benbouali, Milán Vitális, Rajmund Tóth, Márk Csinger and Oleksandr Pyschur – are no longer with Győr.

Eight players arrived in Kispest during the summer: Deian Boldor, Pablo García, Asier García, Osman Hadzikic, Adi Alic, Aleksandr Safronov, Reda Eddarraj, while our Spanish striker Alberto Marí joined the team this week. With the exception of Marí, everyone is available, so Maurizio Jacobacci can prepare a full squad for Sunday's match.
