This time a midweek round was held in the NB III South-East Group. Budapest Honvéd II enjoyed home advantage against group newcomers Tiszaföldvár SE, who had been promoted from Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok county Division I. As we reported earlier, Gábor Kovács replaced Zsolt Laczkó, who moved to the first team, as head coach. The coach made an excellent debut, winning his first competitive match 4–1. Lőrinc Papp was also handed his first start in the team and therefore made his NB III debut in a winning match.
The match began superbly. Less than two minutes had passed when we won a free-kick 22 metres from goal, and Máté Pintér blasted it into the top-left corner (1–0). In the 21st minute we doubled our lead. Krajcsovics set off down the right from the middle of the visitors’ half, left the Tiszaföldvár defence behind and then, from 10 metres, shot past the advancing goalkeeper into the net (2–0). In the 35th minute Krajcsovics almost copied his first goal: once again he raced irresistibly away on the right and then fired a low shot into the net from 13 metres (3–0). The visitors pulled one back in the 61st minute. Following a long throw, Bidzilya reduced Tiszaföldvár’s deficit (3–1). In the 84th minute Máté Pintér won the ball on the halfway line, went past one defender, beat another at the edge of the penalty area and, while falling, scored Honvéd’s fourth goal into the left side of the net. A fine individual effort!
Gábor Kovács: — We prepared for the match, analysed Tiszaföldvár’s play and managed to impose our will on them. We were a little fortunate as well because our opponents had played a 120-minute cup tie on Sunday. We prepared with that in mind and chose our tactics accordingly. Fortunately, we managed to build a three-goal lead in the first half, which we then only had to protect in the second. The opposition were dangerous from set pieces and long throw-ins, and that is how they scored their only goal. I feel we deserved the victory because, in addition to the four goals, we created many chances and could have won by an even bigger margin.
