The 2024/2025 Simple Women’s League season began with Budapest Honvéd’s match

The 2024/2025 women’s league season began in Kispest, with our newly promoted top-flight team hosting Kész-St. Mihály-Szeged in the first match, chronologically, of round 1 of the Simple Women’s League.

Our team practically dominated throughout the match, enjoyed more possession and created more chances, and summer signing Vivien Csuhai gave us the lead as early as the eighth minute.

The visitors equalised in the 35th minute, but Honvéd continued to control the game and the pattern did not change after the break. We attacked, while Szeged defended in a disciplined manner and patiently waited for any opportunity that might arise. Unfortunately, one came late on: the visitors scored again in the 79th minute and, as it turned out, that proved to be the winning goal.

Our team acquitted itself honourably in its first NB I match and showed that it belongs in the top flight, but it is also part of the picture that we need to play calmly and with fewer mistakes  if we are to be successful.

Martin Masaryk: “Congratulations to Szeged on the victory and thank you to the girls for their performance on the pitch. My respect goes to my team; we played with humility throughout. We know we are newcomers in the first division, so we still need to gain experience and always focus on ourselves. I could talk about other things too, but there would be no point and it would not do me any good either. The most important thing is to analyse the mistakes and concentrate on our own task. We will keep working and I believe we will continue to improve."

In the next round, one week from now, our women’s team will play away to MTK.
