Left Empty-Handed from Pesterzsébet

Following their impressive victory against title contenders III. Kerületi TVE, István Körtvélyesi's side took the pitch in Pesterzsébet. ESMTK entered the clash boasting an outstanding record, having suffered only a single defeat so far.

The hosts took an early lead: Máté Balogh found the net following a corner in the 5th minute, and ESMTK increased their advantage as the first half drew to a close. Barnabás Balogh made a brilliant initial save, but János Molnár was on hand to pounce on the rebound and pick out the far corner, sending us into the break facing a two-goal deficit. Shortly after the restart, a penalty awarded to the home side sealed the match, leaving us to depart the ESMTK Stadium empty-handed. Our second team will have the chance to bounce back this Sunday, when István Körtvélyesi's side host eighth-placed Csepel SC at home from 11:00.

István Körtvélyesi, head coach:

„Unfortunately, we fell behind early in the match following a scramble after a corner. From then on, we tried to play our game and managed to control open play. We also created chances – but following a scramble after a throw-in, our opponents increased their lead again. We came out with renewed energy for the second half, but around the 50th minute, our opponents were awarded a questionable penalty that set the final score. Overall, I am pleased that our team consistently strove to play quality football, making the overall contest reasonably decent to watch. Unfortunately, the standard of the match was low, but we will quickly correct our errors. We keep working; we must build on the positives!”
