Our team went into the match in difficult circumstances because of several absences. The attacking line was particularly depleted: last season's top scorer Souleymane Youla, as well as fellow prolific players Nemanja Andric and György Patkó, were unavailable because of injury and other reasons. The enforced changes meant that our goalkeeper László Komora also featured as an outfield player this time.
The hosts took the lead as early as the 6th minute, but we did not have to wait long for an equaliser: five minutes later Erdei found the net to make it 1–1. Kelenföld went back in front in the 23rd minute, but Kamber quickly answered Kálnoky's goal, so the teams went into the break level at 2–2.
Early in the second half the hosts regained the lead through Nemes, before Merza also scored in the closing stages. Honvéd BKE, however, fought until the final moment: Kamber found the home net for a second time in the last minute of the match, but there was no time left to equalise.
Although our team enjoyed the greater share of play and the chances could have produced a different result, most of our opportunities went begging. Kelenföld, by contrast, made more efficient use of their chances and ultimately deservedly claimed the victory.
The defeat is naturally painful, particularly because it brings an end to a 45-match unbeaten run, but the superb sequence sustained over such a long period is an achievement worthy of great respect in itself.
There is not long to wait for the next match: on Monday, September 21 at 19:30, we host Dunaharaszti MTK at the Honvéd Academy in Round 3.
