The Budapest Honvéd women’s team travelled to Zagreb, where the girls faced Croatian side Agram Zagreb in their final pre-season match ahead of next Saturday’s league opener.
Against Agram, who are aiming to play a leading role in the Croatian league, we took the lead as early as the 16th minute through Gabriella Kós. After the hosts equalised, Josy Matos restored our advantage in the 32nd minute, and we managed to hold on to it for a long time, but the home side eventually levelled late on. Despite the intense heat, the teams played a high-quality match that served as excellent preparation for the league season.
An interesting feature of the match was that a Honvéd player was in goal for both teams. Agram’s goalkeeper was injured before kick-off, so we helped them out: Szonja Széchényi played in goal for Agram, while Melania Pasar guarded the Honvéd goal. Of the squad members, Vivien Csuhai, Karla Kurkotovic, Virág Sipőcz and Fruzsina Schildkraut were rested on this occasion.
Martin Masaryk, head coach: “I am very happy that we were able to play another international match. We gained a lot of experience, which helps our development. We showed several different sides of ourselves during the match; for the most part I saw good things from the girls, although the first and the last fifteen minutes did not go well. I expected a better performance from some players, but I believe we will learn from our mistakes and will not repeat them in the league. I still maintain that there is great potential in the team; everyone has to give everything, and that is how we can be successful."
