Gábor Kovács's side most recently thrashed Szegedi VSE 4-0 and goes into the next round from sixth place. We have played one match more than Sunday's opponents. We have collected 16 points in total and won half of our league games this season, namely five. Our NB III side is aiming for its second away victory.
What you should know about our opponents:
BKV Előre was founded in 1912 and has spent a total of four seasons in the NB I, most recently appearing in the top flight in 1950. They have played continuously in the third tier since the 2013-14 season.
They currently sit 11th in the table, having managed to win only a third of their matches, alongside one draw and five defeats in the league. In the Hungarian Cup they were knocked out 5-1 by the same Gyirmót side that our first team will also face on Sunday from 17:00 at the Alcufer Stadium.
Béla Balogh's team most recently suffered a 4-1 defeat to league leaders Gyula. Their home league record is balanced: from five matches they have won two and lost two, with one draw. Their top home scorer is László Kerék with six goals. They finished last season in seventh place.
Our opponents have three players who have appeared in NB III matches for Honvéd, as well as three more footballers who previously played for our youth teams. Gábor Horváth played for our NB III side in Kispest in 2008, while Botond Bartha joined Honvéd in 2016 and, apart from a spell in Bologna, wore red and black until February 2024. He made 28 NB III appearances and scored two goals, and was also named in the NB I squad twice, while Dávid Soós featured 26 times for our second team. In addition, Norman Szabó (U12), Botond Knolmár (U13-U17) and Richárd Wágner (U15) represented our youth sides during their careers.
Shared history
Our second team suffered two defeats against the Budapest side last season. In September 2023, at the MFA Youth Centre, our team led at half-time through Dominik Hancz's goal, but the visitors turned the match around through a brace from László Kerék and a goal from Zoltán Dani, taking all three points away from Kispest.
In the return fixture in March we again lost after taking the lead. László Benkő's goal sent the teams into the break with Kispest in front, but once again a BKV player scored twice, as two goals from Máté Balogh were enough for the yellow-and-blues to win. So we certainly have something to avenge in Sunday's league match.
