Balázs Dörnyei: We still have room to improve, but we are on the right track

A difficult task awaited our women's team, as in Wednesday's final we faced Ferencváros, now seven-time Hungarian Cup winners. The reigning league champions built a two-goal first-half lead through Viktória Nagy and Diána Csányi, before after the restart Vlada Kubassova fired into the net from 20 metres to score the green-and-whites' third goal. 

“We started building a team in the summer and we are still very much in the middle of that journey — this match and our league results both show that clearly. At the same time, I think it is also visible that we are moving in the right direction. Of course, we still have room to improve: in this match we were not really able to offer serious resistance. There were turning points where, if things had gone better for us, if we had not played naively and had not made poor decisions, the game could have been closer and more exciting, but this is how it turned out.” – our head coach summed up in front of the M4 Sport cameras. 

Our captain Fanni Vachter stressed that the team had done everything it could to succeed. 

“I think we genuinely did everything we could. Fradi — who also lead the league table — have much more experience than we do and many more players who have already played in cup finals or perhaps championship finals. The club gave us everything that was possible. We practised the tactics and made mistakes; if we had been a little luckier at 2–0, we could have got back into the match.”
