A major challenge awaits our women's team as we host nine-time Hungarian champions and seven-time cup winners Ferencváros at the academy on Saturday. Our opponents are unbeaten in the league so far; they drew a four-goal thriller in Felcsút in the previous round and took all three points away to DVTK in the midweek round. We drew 2–2 with ETO in a tight match before suffering a one-goal defeat away to Újpest a few days later.
“Against Újpest you could already feel that the team was more tired physically, but especially mentally. Unfortunately the result did not go the way we planned, and we lost valuable points after conceding two unfortunate goals, but that did not break the team. If anything, it will make us fight even harder in the next round” – our young player said.
We last faced the green-and-whites in April in the Simple Women's Cup final, when we suffered a three-goal defeat and finished the competition with a silver medal. Although the head-to-head record favours Ferencváros, our most recent home meeting with Flórián Albert's side ended in a 1–1 draw.
“We play Ferencváros on Saturday. I think everyone is really looking forward to it because playing Fradi always gives you extra motivation. After losing the cup final, everyone wants to prove themselves now and show what we are capable of.”
Petra Nyul joined us on loan from the green-and-whites for the second half of last season before completing a permanent move to Kispest in the summer. Our defender came through the Ferencváros academy, made her senior debut in Soroksár colours and subsequently also played in the top flight for Ferencváros.
“I spent many years at Fradi, in the academy, the reserve side and then six months with the first team as well. Because of that I am not preparing any differently now; I want to prove myself just as much as against any other team. I do not feel any extra tension, though it will be good to see my former team-mates.”
