Franciska Simon: We expect a difficult match against Fradi, but must focus on our own game

On Wednesday, our women's team faces Ferencváros in the Hungarian Cup final. Ahead of the match, we spoke to Rebeka Róth and Franciska Simon.

As is known, our team prepared for the upcoming cup final with a victory, beating hosts Szekszárdi WFC 6–0 in Round 19 of the Simple Women's League. Eszter Csáki scored a hat-trick, while Anna Sain, Eri Narita and Petra Gégény each contributed one goal. Franciska Simon stressed that such a high-scoring win can provide strength and confidence for Wednesday's final.

„We played a very good match against Szekszárd. We were disciplined throughout and worked very well as a team on the pitch. Fortunately, we were able to take our chances efficiently and played with great confidence from start to finish. I think preparing for a cup final with such a convincing victory is very positive, but we have to expect a completely different match on Wednesday. Everyone feels a healthy amount of excitement, but these are exactly the games everyone trains for day after day” – our player summed up. She emphasised that our opponents have a squad full of outstanding players, but our team must concentrate on its own game throughout.

Our midfielder Rebeka Róth is preparing for her third cup final. Between 2018 and 2022 she played for Ferencváros, before a spell in the United States and then joining our club for the 2025-2026 season.

„This will be my third cup final and the first one in which I can actually play, so that is definitely extra motivation. I managed to win two cups with Fradi, but now I would also like to win one with Honvéd, and it would be especially satisfying to do so against Ferencváros. Fradi like to have the ball and create chances with a lot of crosses, so I think our main emphasis has to be on defending she said, before stressing that her international experience has helped her develop a great deal in recent years.

„In the United States, college league matches are very tight and you have to fight for every single point until the final minutes, so the mentality of never giving up on a game can definitely help me on Wednesday, regardless of how the match develops. The physical side of my game, which I improved a lot there, could also be very important.
